Australia’s only all women’s triathlon series, The 2008 Ramsay Health Care Triathlon Pink Series is now open for entries with events being held across October in Sydney, Melbourne and for the first time this year on the Gold Coast and in Perth, with Ajay Rochester, the host of Australia’s biggest loser leading the charge.

An avid supporter of healthy living and fitness, Ajay’s charitable support is tireless; she has also recently participated in the 228km walk across the Great Wall of China with Olivia Newton-John to help raise money for a cancer wellness centre to be built in Melbourne.

Triathlon Pink is a great way to get your friends and family together for a fun and exciting active challenge as well as supporting a great cause,” said Ajay.

“I competed in last year’s event amongst hundreds of other terrific women and the supportive, compassionate and fun atmosphere was unbelievable. It was a great day and I am now back in training to take on the course again.”

Coinciding with National Breast Cancer Awareness month, Triathlon Pink is supported by Triathlon Australia and encompasses the swimming, cycling and running legs and is a fantastic and achievable initiative, catering for everyday women of all ages starting from age 7 and heading into the seventies.

In 2007,  events in Sydney and Melbourne saw 750 women cross the finish line to become exclusive ‘Pinkies’, so with the increasing interest and two more events on offer in the Gold Coast and Perth, a forecast of 2,000 women is expected to participate across Australia.

Triathlon Pink is really just a chance to promote physical and mental health, bringing together women of all ages and lifestyles,” says event organiser, T3 events director Brett James.

“These days it is rare to find anyone that has not been affected by cancer so it is a great way to lend your support in the fight to cure breast cancer.”

“Our events theme is challenge, participation and fun.

“Challenge yourself to get out there, participate with friends and most importantly have some fun,” said James.

The event will begin at Runaway Bay in the Gold Coast on Sunday 12 October, followed by Sydney’s event at Homebush Bay on Saturday 18 October and Perth on Sunday 26 October at Challenge Stadium and will come to a finish in Melbourne on Sunday 2 November at Albert Park.

Every competitor crossing the finish line in any four lengths of the course has the honour of calling themselves a Pinkie and will receive an exclusive finishers medal- all you need is a keen interest to get active and participate in a fun, challenging yet non-confrontational environment.

All legs of the course are very achievable and depending on your fitness level and goal, there are four courses to choose from, including:

  • 7- 9 years kids race: 50m swim/1.5km ride/500m run
  • 100m swim/3km ride/1km run
  • 200m swim/6km ride/2km run
  • 300m swim/9km ride/3km run

You can enter any of the courses as an individual, completing the entire course, or as part of a team, where each competitor races one particular leg, similar to a relay format.  If you are interested but a little bit nervous you can enter with friends, as a team, where you will be guaranteed to start the race together.
