Capoeira for Kids Free Workshop
Capoeira is a Brazilian art form that integrates elements of martial arts, sport, dance, music and culture. It is a great physical activity for developing youth and encourages them to explore the joys of being active, and, interactive. Children who practice Capoeira on a regular basis benefit from improved physical and mental abilities.
Besides being fun and eye-catching, it is very efficient in child development. Capoeira helps develop their balance, coordination, general fitness, flexibility, sense of rhythm and awareness of their bodies. Training Capoeira builds self-esteem and helps the child to develop a sense of identity as an individual, as a member of a nurturing community and as a member of a global society.
In addition to the benefits listed, Capoeira helps to build their personalities through self-expression in a fun and playful way. The musical aspect makes them more comfortable and more willing to exercise as kids. It can also help to develop the potential of each individual in their ability to learn in school and have a positive influence on their life in general.
The workshop will be based on having fun, as a mediator for learning. When a child is laughing, smiling and being positive, I believe they have the greatest potential to absorb and integrate new concepts. The class will run for 2 hours in three stages. The first stage is The Warm Up and Stretching (30 min), where the kids will explore the limits of their bodies and learn exercises to ensure that their bodies are kept in good physical health. The second stage is Capoeira Learning (1 hour), where the kids will get an introduction to some basic movements and learn how to move freely. The last stage is The Roda (30 min), which is a circle where the kids clap their hands and sing in Portuguese in time to the instruments and play two at a time in the middle where they are encouraged to apply the skills that they learned during stage 2. Parents are encouraged to come for the third stage, observe and participate in enjoying and rejoicing the achievements of their child.
So bring your kids and discover the great micro-culture that is Capoeira!
