TAZ Entertainment presents
in association with Ad Libitum
"Scheherazade"
- an outdoor theatre show
based on the 1001 Arabian Nights
adaptation by Mark Kont
directed by Bruce Denny
The year is 1001AD (approximately)!!
There are 1001 nights (or thereabouts)!!
There are 1001 tales to tell (or maybe a few less)!!
The place is Persia (or somewhere over there)!!
TAZ Entertainment presents, in association with Ad Libitum,
the exotic and intriguing tale of Scheherazade, based on the 1001 Arabian Nights creatively adapted by Mark Kont.
Scheherazade will open at the exquisite Swan Valley Oasis Resort in an outdoor theatre show setting under the stars in March,
performing for four shows only.
The plot is based on ancient Persian myth and legends.
Many of the tales were included in, or through time have become attached to the tale of Scheherazade, which has enthralled and inspired mankind through the past millennium. Scheherazade ignores the well known stories of Aladdin and Sinbad and humorously portrays some of the lesser known tales attached to this legendary story, incorporating a comical modern flair.
Scheherazade is the tale of a woman
trying to melt the heart of a king.
The Shah has lost at love after discovering his wife’s infidelity
and orders her death. The powerful Shah enjoys various marriages thereafter and each wife’s fate is sealed to the same conclusion
the following morning after their wedding night,
unless she can prove that she will remain forever faithful.
Scheherazade has devised a clever plan to intrigue her new husband, so that she may prove her love and loyalty to her king and
bring an end to the ruler’s suffering to all womankind.
Once in the King’s chambers, Scheherazade asks
if she might bid one last farewell to her beloved sister, Dunyazad,
who has secretly been prepared to ask Scheherazade
to tell a story during the long night.
The Shah lays awake, listening with awe to Scheherazade’s first tale
and as dawn breaks time has escaped in order to complete the exciting story. And so the Shah keeps Scheherazade alive as he eagerly anticipates each new story, until one thousand and one adventurous nights, and three sons later,
the King has not only been entertained but wisely educated in morality and kindness by Scheherazade who becomes his Queen.
Directed by Bruce Denny, Scheherazade will also feature belly dancers Shafira and Aziza among other enchanting dancers who have beenaptly named Shazza’s Shakers for this show.
Last performed ten years ago in Kalgoorlie, Denny says “the Swan Valley Oasis Resort, with its natural scenery and delightful attributes, is the ideal venue for this colourful middle eastern tale”.
Patrons are asked to bring a picnic blanket, cushions and hamper to enjoy whilst watching the show. Hampers can be pre-ordered from the venue in advance, or patrons can bring their own,
the venue is fully licensed which means there is no byo alcohol.
Alternatively patrons can enjoy the sumptuous food by dining at the restaurant before the show, bookings essential.
“Scheherazade” describes, among others,
the stories of the fisherman and the djinni, King Duban and the wondrous sage who cured his skin irritation by having him play polo,
and a speech impaired falcon who tries to save its master.
Does Scheherazade have the storytelling skills
to outwit her murderous husband?
Does playing polo really cure cancer?
Do hunting birds know how to swear?
Can you stomach another of these stupid questions?
“Scheherazade” More than a play!
