Andrew Schultz – Magnificat (world premiere)

Javier Busto – O Magnum Mysterium

Tomás Luis de Victoria – O Magnum Mysterium

J S Bach’s Magnificat, written in 1723, is a choral favourite with audiences worldwide. It will be heard in this performance alongside another soaring Baroque masterpiece, Vivaldi’s stirring Gloria, as well as unaccompanied sacred works from the Renaissance and the 21st century.

In this performance Sydney Chamber Choir will be conducted by Baroque choral specialist, music educator and popular ABC Classic FM broadcaster Graham Abbott. Featured soloists will be soprano Taryn Fiebig, a noted Baroque interpreter also well-known to Sydney audiences from her recent role as Eliza for Opera Australia’s production of My Fair Lady, alto Sally-Anne Russell, tenor Paul McMahon, and bass Craig Everingham. The orchestra is the Sydney Conservatorium Early Music Ensemble, which includes many of the finest emerging Baroque instrumentalists in Australia.

Formed in 1975, Sydney Chamber Choir is ranked among Australia’s finest performers of Renaissance and Baroque music. From the crystalline purity of 16th century polyphony to the exuberant energy of new Australian works, Sydney Chamber Choir sings the very best of choral music in all its freshness and beauty.
