Sumo wrestling, live sushi demonstrations and Asian inspired cocktails will be part of the attractions at Alexandria’s Buckland Hotel on Friday 28 March from 5pm. The Japanese theme celebrates the introduction of their new international chef and their new unique Japanese tapas menu.
Kyoichi Kai, the new head chef at the Buckland Hotel is replacing traditional ‘Aussie pub food’ with a more sophisticated concept. He says, “In creating the menu, I wanted to look through the customers eyes. I wanted to create something new to pubs.”
Mr Kai has an impressive portfolio of experience in fine dining. He worked at Zuma in London and was the executive chef of Toko2 in Surry Hills. The new menu aims to cater to the increased number of women now frequenting pubs and also those looking for healthier food options.
People living and working in the Alexandria area, and lovers of Japanese food, are encouraged to attend the launch on 28 March. The night will also include prizes and giveaways, happy hour prices 5pm–8pm and a free glass of champagne on arrival.

The Buckland Hotel will introduce 'Ladies Night' from 1 April which will include free champagne on arrival with $7 cocktails. The Hotel currently runs Trivia on Wednesday nights, Poker on Thursday nights with prizes up to $100 in bar tokens and the Super 14 rugby union games on the big screen Fridays and Saturdays.
The Buckland Hotel is owned by the Winners Circle Group who own and manage five hotels across New South Wales. The other hotels are located in Northbridge, Alexandria, Blacktown, Wallsend and Broadmeadow.
