As the rate of suicides rises in our community, 'Night, Mother' is a piece of drama we can't ignore.

On a typical Saturday night in an isolated country home, Jessie confides to her mother, Thelma, that she plans to kill herself 'in a couple of hours'.

At first her mother refuses to take her seriously, but as Jessie sets about tidying the house and making lists of things to be looked after, her sense of desperate helplessness begins to build.

The play, which unravels in real time over the next 90 minutes, allows us an intimate window into the relationship between a mother and daughter torn apart by the devastating effects of depression.

This compelling drama bristles with suspense as Thelma desperately tries to convince Jessie that life is truly worth living.

Marsha Norman's Pulitzer Prize-winning play pushes beyond our preconceptions of why people take their own lives and keeps us on the edge of our seats till the final curtain.
